I recently went back to Corporate America. I prayed about going back for 3 solid months and asked God to release me to go back and do something different. Oh, my word, be careful what you ask God for especially when the answer is favorable. I was told so many great things by the hiring execs causing me to be excited and grateful. I have been in this industry almost 20yrs and was ready for something more relaxed. I will tell you this I have officially used the word “overwhelming” for my work situation. Familiar it is and God gave what I asked for in benefits, what’s the problem? I was naïve to believe the words coming out of the mouth of the hiring execs 😊. Reality has hit in more than one way. I have sat here, this week during Lenten laughing at myself. When we think of Lenten woes we often think of food and social media. I have placed the office as a woe this week. It has caused me to question morals, values, and god being generous for the opportunity. Once I figure out the real lessons pertaining to this place of employment, I will let you know for certain.
Anyhow, in my request to God for familiarity yet new with this reentering process He delivered. I thought I was about to be chilling on my couch working from home. I am on my couch more than 8hrs, computer in sight, emails for days, customers I had rid myself from, and calls that are not often so pleasant. I fell for what was being told to me because it sounded great especially knowing I wasn’t going back to my previous Corporate setting. Many people have unrealistic expectations of what most things should look like. I have found myself frustrated because of the naivety I allowed based on what someone was selling me. Of course, it will all make sense after a while.
As a Christian, how often do you find yourself having naïve beliefs?🙄 We find ourselves wanting instant fixes too. Let me insert this as well we may even go so far as to feel betrayed by God and feel as if He is not present. We pray fervently for what we want then to get silly when He answers, and it is not how we felt the answer should go once received. We must recall most times we are praying for things He didn’t promise anyway. Jesus never promised that if we believe in our prayers, we will receive what we ask for. Believing in the Bible is all about trusting in and surrendering to the goodness and character of God, not our prayer catalog. We will always receive an answer to our prayers because God is the Good, Good father.
On this Lenten journey some things are a breeze in these first days and others haven’t come to surface yet. Think about some things you were naïve about on this trek. Have the matters caused you to be upset? When we feel disappointed in God, when we think, “God didn’t come through for me,” that’s the time to take a step back and ask, “What kind of naïve beliefs did I have in the first place?” talk with your pastor or spiritual advisor who can see things more clearly. Then we can place the naïve part of our beliefs into God’s hands as an act of worship and trust then watch our irritation and disappointment subside.
